Apprentice ICA Technician
I found out about the Welsh Water apprenticeship while searching on the Careers Wales website. I’d been looking to change my career to a more practical role for a while, as I no longer found working in administration fulfilling or challenging.
When I saw the Welsh Water apprenticeship I thought it not only sounded really interesting but that it looked really well structured too. From this, I decided to look into the company and the more I read, the more excited I was. The opportunity to work for a company who’s ethical direction was so in line with my own beliefs.
There are a lot of positives to the apprenticeship; getting paid whilst learning and developing in my chosen career; being able to work outside and not being stuck in an office and the variation of the role keeps me constantly engaged. But I feel the best part of the apprenticeship is being supported by my mentor and college tutors. I was a bit nervous before starting the role, as I had no prior knowledge of the engineering industry, but thanks to the support I’ve received, at no point have I felt out of my depth or unable to take on a task. It’s such a great environment to be in and I feel like I can really push myself.
So go for it! It is, without a doubt, the best career decision I have ever made.
